FIXED GEAR CRIT
ThunderCrit has proven itself as one of the UK’s premier fixed gear crit races, enticing riders from across the globe to make the journey to London for an epic day of racing. With a tried and tested qualifying format and Mens and Womens A and B finals the organisers, the North London ThunderCats ensure that all riders race twice increasing the accessibility of fixed gear racing to first timers. ThunderCrit gets bigger every year as the fixed gear community grows across the UK and beyond. This year the riders were rewarded with outstanding weather, drawing huge crowds and creating an amazing atmosphere that any race would do well to replicate.
Following practice laps, riders were able to relax and warm up in the shade at the Altura Warm Up Area before qualifying began. With four heats for the men and one for the women, the qualifiers would determine grid positions in the final races. With only 20 riders advancing to the A Finals in each heat, smart, tactical riding was required to secure a spot while keeping reserves in the tank for later in the day. Once the B Finals were completed, including a fantastic solo ride from Men’s B Winner, Sam Andrews (Clash Racing), the leading men and women took to the track. In the womens race, Eeva Sarlin (LOVE&ROCKETS – Basso) took the bunch sprint, reigning champion Jo Smith (NLTCBMBC) rolled across the line in 6th. In the mens race, Specialized/RocketEspresso put on a racing masterclass with Alec Briggs taking the win ahead of Olivier Leroy (Aventon) and Stefan Schafer. Dimitri Demishev was the highest placed ThunderCat in a very respectable 34th from over 180 riders.
