Round the world by bike

Irishman Brendan Barnes decided to undertake a 23,000 mile solo cycling adventure around the world and we offered to sponsor him with Altura clothing and luggage to help him on his way, and to give our product an immense long term test!

Here's his latest email, and you can follow his full adventure on his website and Facebook.

Just a bit of an update from the road. Since I last spoke with you I cycled from San Francisco down the Californian coast to Mexico where I crossed in Tijuana. I then made my way along the stunning Baja California peninsula. I spent beautiful days riding in sweltering heat with brilliant scenery and nights camped in peaceful desert. I then crossed over to mainland Mexico where I cycled slightly inland to Guadalajara, the second largest city in Mexico. Here I have spent one month practicing my Spanish and enjoying Christmas and New Years with new found friends. I delayed my leaving so I can watch the UCI track cycling world cup which is coming here this Friday-Sunday.

Due to a flight I have to make in Panama in March I will be pushing on and doing a lot of cycling through Central America. The route I would like to ride has me doing 6,000 KM in under 60 days. Not much room for days off there.

The Altura panniers are holding up perfectly, no doubt these will take me all the way home to Ireland. The Pro gel shorts are amazing. I have only one pair and they have done almost 12,000km with no signs of excess wear. After my metro shorts that lasted 8,000km i moved onto the Ascent baggy shorts which I love, very light and fast drying.

I have currently been traveling for 253 days and covered 11,457 km in 3 countries.

I have attached some pictures but please check out more on the site or Facebook at:
